It really was too hot for this.
He twitched, then wiggled into a better position under the huge beach umbrella he'd just bought, and sighed.
It was really too hot to be doing anything. Other than lying in bed, with the air conditioning set down in the thirties or something.
California summers were brutal.
Rhet sighed, and reached for one of the many bottles of water he'd brought with him. As his fingers brushed a bit of the ice living in his cooler, he briefly toyed with the idea of going to live with them....at least for a few minutes.....
Groaning as little icy water droplets fell onto his skin, he set the bottle to sit on his head for a bit. He shivered. That was good, but could you get brainfreeze from outside your mouth?
He was bored, anyone could see that. He should call Mel, because he hadn't all morning, but wasn't she supposed to work today? Maybe call Quin? The ditz was always good for a laugh. Or seven.
In the end, he decided on his girlfriend. At the least she could laugh and tell him to get off his butt and get into the water. If she came, that is.
The line was busy. With a huff he threw the hone back onto the towel he was sprawled on, and tried not to groan. It was hot, he was sticky and bored, and he wanted his Mel.
Today was just not going his way.
He was just about to roll over and text Her Melly-ness, when he spotted a head of vibrant red hair. Like, Kool-aid red.
It took a minute for his foggy brain to attache a name to the head he knew he knew, and when it did he proceeded to scream it and get the girl's attention.
"Scar-leeeeeeeeeett!!!!!" he screamed, waving an arm feebly. "I'm dying! Please help me."

((Hope you don't mind too terribly if I totally jump in. =3 I need to have Thomas somewhere, and it's better to get a thread going than just make a new dead one.))
Well, that had wasted an entire morning...Thomas scowled down at the road, his fingers idly tapping on the steering wheel in front of him. A guy just tries to go out for a drive and ends up spending a few hours on the side of the road. With a muttered curse, he glanced up at the passing street signs in search of an exit. The man rarely came to this area, and the roads seemed more complicated than his neighborhood. "But really," he muttered to himself using one hand to rub the back of his neck. "What kind of person pulls over to help every person that's lost? You're losing it, Valker. There's enough other people out there, you don't have to see to every single tourist." He sighed with an eye roll. Wasted the entire morning when he could have been doing something completely unproductive. What was wrong with him? It was a normal enough time getting out to the freeway, but then there had been the family with a flat tire, a couple with an overheated engine, some old guy who couldn't seem to read any sort of instructions...His strange side was acting up again. It seemed even stronger in this city, for some reason. And in the past few weeks, he gotten compliments on his eyes every time he did something like that, which completely baffled the man. It's not like his eyes were ugly, but who noticed brown? Spotting the turn-off with a noise of satisfaction, Thomas pulled off into the gravel parking lot, reveling in the sight of the endless water that stretched along the beach. This was why he moved to California. Sure it was as hot as anything, but it wasn't any worse than Pheonix, and this heat came with a beach. He hadn't actually been planning to come to the coast, but after a few hours of driving, he figured it would be better than wasting gas before going home. Camo would never let him hear the end of it if he spent the entire day doing nothing in front of the computer. Instead, he'd spend the day doing nothing in front of the ocean. Tugging out the folding chair he had stuffed into the trunk, the man strode off onto the sand. This particular beach was fairly crowded, but nothing compared to some places further north. He sunk the chair a good few inches into the sand before flopping into it, his sunglasses carefully perched over his eyes. It was always good to take some quality time for absolutely nothing. Some people really needed to learn that lesson. The sudden voice by his side caught the man's attention and he instinctively glanced over at the kid laying a few feet away. He was half turned away, so Thomas couldn't judge his face, but his automatic response was to check on his well-being. What on Earth? The boy was fine. It wasn't that hot out here. Just as he was turning back, Thomas blinked at what seemed like a jerk in his chest. You don't know that for sure, a voice seemed to chide him. Check, you idiot. The man winced, vaugely wondering if he was indeed going crazy before turning to the kid on the towel. He pulled off his sunglasses, always hating it when people didn't look at him properly. Thomas blinked once more, not noticing as the brown of his eyes flashed to a dark blue. "Hey, kid!" he called, suddenly the essence of kindness. "You alright? Need some water or something?"

Ok. So he had epically failed to get Scarlett's attention. That wasn't so unusual. he girl usually had ten million different things on her mind, or so she told people.
But he had gained the attention of someone else. Rhet flopped around and peered up a the stranger towering over him, after a fashion. Dark skin, blue eyes, far too much clothes on.... In all this heat, Rhet thought the guy was insane.
Not that he was going to just come out and say that, mind you.
"Thanks man, but I'm ok," he called back. "Just a little bit roasted, you know?" Even though it was patently obvious that the guy reclining in that lawn chair a few paces away did not know. "I've got loads of water. And ice. Do you?"
He feebly dragged himself into a sitting position, and sat there panting with he exertion for a minute. "Can I get you something? It's really hot; wouldn't want to see anyone fall to dehydration, right?
He looked up, and peered at the guy again through squinted eyes. He was feeling something....weird, like he had a few times a school. Not stomach sickness, since he hadn't experienced that at school since, what, fifth grade? No, this was weird like something tingling at the back of his brain and causing his heart to speed up to a crazy level. He felt like he'd known this guy before but had somehow forgotten......and it was creepy.
"This is so weird," he muttered. "I feel like I know you......."

Thomas chuckled, shifting in his chair to better look at the boy. He’s fine, the man snapped at his stupidity. What a surprise! The ‘strange side’ seemed to draw back and Thomas felt as if he were returning to himself. He hated odd feelings like that. He rolled his eyes, glancing away for a moment as a young kid began yelling at the waves to return the sand castle they had stolen. With a grin, he looked back down at Rhet, once again not noticing the shift in his eyes. From blue back to dark brown faster than anyone could blink.
"Can I get you something? It's really hot; wouldn't want to see anyone fall to dehydration, right?”
“’course not,” he said with a shrug. “I’m alright though. My car’s what…ten feet away?” Thomas grinned, idly tapping the armrest of his chair. He had almost taken his attention off the kid when he spoke again.
“This is so weird. I feel like I know you.”
He blinked again, turning to Rhet with a rather puzzled look. “Know me? Well I’m fairly certain we haven’t met…” The man paused, looking him over. There was that jerk in his chest again, as if someone were prodding him from inside his ribcage. A voice seemed to murmur in his head, the same one that enjoyed nagging him so much. Another one? Already? Thomas shook his head absently, one hand going to the Bluetooth on his ear. It was off, as it normally was. Yep, he was going crazy. A voice in his head and some kid that seemed half familiar to him, as if he had been asleep when his body had met Rhet. He wanted to just turn away, put the boy out of his mind…but something made him keep talking. Probably that stupid voice again. “Any other day I’d just call you crazy,” he commented quietly. “But it seems my own mind has turned against me. Maybe I…saw you in a store or something.” He paused before sighing. “What’s your name, kid?”
