Target was a fun store. It sold clothes, groceries, jewelery, christmas tree ornaments, and candy! Even though it definitely was not for the rich - Polyester? Really!? - the clothes were still (relatively) good quality, fun, and and pretty, too. The only problem was the shoes. There were aisles upon aisled of racks of shoes, and Robynne hated it. Shoes were so confusing; they never seemed to fit right. And it was a bizarre idea, if you thought about it - wearing these things on your feet... kind of like boxes. Or bags, even, for your feet. Weird. Really, why couldn't everyone just go barefoot!?
So she just avoided that part of the store.
Right now she was just passing the racks of carpets that hung from the shelves in the Home Furnishings section. She ran her hand along the soft plush rugs, thinking about how cute they would look all piled up in a classroom. Little rugs instead of desks would be kind of fun. Smiling at the thought, she turned the corner into the aisle full of clocks and watched them for a bit before realizing none of them were moving. Batteries... right.
Robynne wasn't really planning on buying anything today, all she wanted to do was walk around the store and watch all the people. People-watching is a legitimate activity, did you know? And a fun one, too. If you watched - or followed - someone for long enough, you could begin to learn a bit about them. For example, this one old man had gone straight to all the sale racks and the self-help books, and hadn't smiled, not even when she waved at him. From this, she could tell that he was not doing very well with his job or life in general and was maybe, just a little bit, depressed.
Oh darn, now he was leaving.
Time to find a new subject! Knowing things about people was just so much fun. Even though some people might think of it as creepy... even stalking, they called it... it was still fun. She waited near the door for someone interesting to walk in, and gasped as she spotted someone from the popular crowd at her school. Well, they sure didn't act like they shopped at Target.
"Hey!" Robynne said, bounding lightly over to her fellow student. She'd forgotten their name... Oh well. "I think we go to the same school! I've never seen you here before! I never expected to see you here.... What's your name again?"
