PAST:
Michael was born in the city of Boulder, Colorado, but moved with the family to Lakeville Connecticut when he was only two years old. Because of this he never really knew what a city was like, growing up surrounded by the towering pines and elms.
With only Mark working full time, the Hanley family wasn't the richest family in town, but they managed to make a living. Although there would be times when there wasn't much money between closings, they always managed to stay afloat. They had a large property and owned about four acres of pure woodlands, an area of marshy swampland that never was developed. While the other members of his family always grumbled about how they hated how the tendrils of forest were always creeping in on the yard and that they should weed whack it all down one day, Michael was fascinated by it, loved it even.
The first time he ever ventured into the uncharted territory was a brisk autumn day. Michael was seven years old. Mark and Lauren were outside raking up leaves while Debbie took care of tommy inside. Subsequently, no one was watching Michael. While everyone had their heads turned, Michael crept into the woods, bushwhacking his way through the countless vines and thorny bushes. He loved the smell of the forest and the sounds of woodland creatures scurrying everywhere. He slowly made his way through the woods, familiarizing himself with everything, touching each plant and sitting on every rock. He continued to play through the forest until the sun had set. While most children would have panicked and lost themselves in the darkness, Michael calmly walked straight through the forest, as if he had lived there his entire life. In the inky blackness he walked straight in through his front door. His hysterical mother cried and hugged him, demanding to know where he had been and what he had been doing. The young Michael responded simply "Explorin'" and refused to tell his family any of his secrets about the woods.
Ever since then, Michael made the wild forest his own, personal Eden. Although he made certain to never interfere with the way things would naturally grow, he began spreading seed to feed the numerous turkeys and deer that flocked to his woods. He loved watching them wobble and squawk naturally through the area.
In school Michael usually got fairly modest grades. Upper C's and lower B's. He knew that if he tried he could do better, but he just could never concentrate in school when learning about numbers and letters when he knew he could be doing something much more interesting at home in his forest. The only subject he could ever devote himself to was band and music. Michael excelled when playing both the flute and the clarinet, loving the bright, woodsy noises they made.
One night, about a month before Michael's fifteenth birthday, Debbie and Mark took the family out to eat at one of the nicer restaurants in town. Although suspicious of the sudden splurging, they were happy to be pampered. It wasn't until dinner was finally over that Michael's parents dropped the bomb. About 3 months ago, Debbie had auditioned for a role in a new television series, she would be portraying a housewife. This meant that, in order to accommodate her, the entire family would have to pack their bags and move out to Hollywood, California.
While Lauren and tommy rejoiced and happily packed up all they owned, Michael was despondent. he couldn't bear the thought of leaving the woods and everything that had ever made him feel excited. They could all pack up their clothes, but how could he pack up the moss, and the trees, and the animals?
Although he was initially against moving to the city, and he still does hate all of the steel and cement that cover everything that could have been nice woodland, part of him became curious about the good life. He was intrigued by the complexity of the social ladder. School was just like another wilderness, with its own set of labyrinthine twists and turns and intricate rules. There really weren't social classes back in Lakeville. It was just The druggies, the nerds and the aggers( people taking agriculture education, which he was admittedley a part of) It was a new territory for him, and yet he innately knew that being an outcast would be the same as burning the entire forest down to the ground. However, if he wanted to familiarize himself he would have to impose himself on each section he could. Of course, exceptions would be made for the low-lifes and drug addicts. He could not be seen with them, it would be the one part of the woods that wasn't his.
After becoming punk, nerd, and even jock for a week or two, Michael found himself snared in the student council and preppie section. It was simply where he best fit in. Of course, he still stuck with the band and his devotion to the woodwinds, but he was happiest when raising money for a cause, especially when that cause happened to be the forests and wilderness that he loved so much. He regualrly spent his free time on the weekends raising money to this effect.
Of course, placing himself in this role, Michael was forced to bring up his grades to keep up the image. With scores in the upper 80's lowers 90's now, he was nearing the acceptable range. He still hates to have tight clothes on, but jeans and a t-shirt generally were let slide with the new crowd he surrounded himself with.
PRESENT:
When Michael met Scarlett, he didn't think that it would amount to anything. She was just a crazy, weird girl that was at the bottom of the school-wide food chain, but as he got to spend more time with her, he slowly fell in love. The time he spent with her was the best he had experienced since moving to the city. She was funny, and gorgeous and understood Michael in a way that other people didn't. She was perfect.
Of course, nothing good can last for long. Having dug themselves into the nerves of the great and powerful Carly Grant, Michael soon received a text dictating the lie that she had come up with, that Scarlett was pregnant. Confused and heartbroken, Michael broke up with Scarlett, not wanting to know any more of the story than he had to.
In an attempt to show that he could easily have a relationship with a normal girl, he started dating Violet Raymond, another flaming redhead from Band. At first she seemed fine, if nothing at all like Scarlett, but pretty soon her clingy nature and bitchy comments about Scarlett grated too hard, and Michael broke up with her...
...Angrily. In fact, he broke up with her by turning a man into a bear and then screaming in rage at Violet. It was his awakening, the way that he figured out that he was actually Pan.
He immediately ran to Scarlett and hooked back up with her, and they are a happy couple once more.
