“Come on, Jas! It’ll be fun! You never ever ever go shopping with me! Its not fairrrr!” Alyssandra complained, pulling at his hand as he sat at the kitchen table for breakfast. He had gone home for one night, only to see if he could ‘borrow’ some money from his parents whilst they were out on another one of their Friday night dates. Gabriella and Scott Gray always went on these dates, claiming that it brought them closer together and kept them from getting in fights like normal parents did. Jasper, Robert, Dean, and Alyssandra (the only child that still lived with them) as well as anyone else who knew the couple knew this was far from the truth. Gabriella and Scott fought. There was no avoiding it. It was a healthy marriage, after all.
Jasper, after finishing his toast and eggs at the kitchen table, had to give in. Alyssandra was one of those girls who had charm, and was impossible to ignore the ongoing pleas of. She was like a small puppy or kitten, always getting her way with the simplest of actions. He was jealous. When he was a little kid, it had only worked because one child would distract their mother and the other twin would go get what the two wanted. But now he was nineteen, and a freshman at college. Robert had gone his separate way, and wasn’t going to Hollywood College for the Arts with his twin. It seemed that all of his childhood was being pulled away violently by some invisible monster. But that, Jasper thought, was just how growing up worked. Going out with his younger sister for a little bit couldn’t possible hurt him.
“Fine.” Jasper grumbled, pretending to be angry with her. Alyssandra squealed in excitement, slipping into a pair of silver flats and taking his keys from the table in front of him. “Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you! You are the absolute best brother ever, and I don’t know what I’d do with out you, and OH-EM-GEE, Jasper, we’re going to have sooo much fun! I’ll wait for you in the car! Don’t be a slowpoke!” He laughed at that. Little Aly would always be a baby to him, and watching her scurry about still made him laugh, even if she was nearly a grown woman. After a quick car ride, they ended up at the mall in a smaller store, where Alyssandra went straight for the hats. Putting a black newsboy hat on her own head and a fedora on Jasper’s, she laughed, turning away to look at other belts and accessories.
He saw the same hat on the redheaded girl next to her, and laughed out loud. “Looks like we match.” he said quietly to her, half hoping that she would not hear him. That would simply be embarrassing. After all, he was here with his baby sister. He didn’t want to look like he was dating her or anything. That would just be embarrassing for all parties involved. Luckily for him, the girl did not hear, took the hat off her head, and continued looking around. He sighed. Today was supposed to be fun. With that being the case, why did he feel like he should run while he still had the chance?
