Hollywood, California PERSONALITY:
Determined-- When Kale is given a task, it must be completed. Even when things turn out horribly wrong, he’d sooner die than give up. Loyal-- He ain’t leavin’ Caiti. Evah. Horrible sense of direction-- Kale gets lost very easily. He’s not fond of driving cars or hiking, and he prefers to stick to areas he knows by heart. Strong-- On and off the field, Kale radiates the feeling of strength and courage. Not just physical strength, but passion and warmth, too. PAST:
The Owens family had always lived in Hollywood. They could identify ancestors as far back as they could remember; which was pretty darn far back. And, from what could be read on the gravestones, each and every one of them had been leaders. Doctors, lawyers, miners, you name it! The Owens had always been the best.
The present day Mr. Owens was no exception. By the age of 42, he had already become the leading talent agent on the West coast. He was in contact with all the great stars, including the one and only Rhet Nicohlas. Because of this, Kale and Rhet had known each other for a while. They had never been the best of friends, but there was a certain respect and tolerance to their relationship. To Kale, Rhet was just another guy he saw at school. He very rarely went gaga over his father’s business partners.
Mrs. Owens was the complete opposite. She had come from a small town in the South, so this way of life was completely new to her. She ravished at the fact that she regularly dined with the stars. She bought furs and gowns the Queen of England would have envied without the least bit of hesitation. She had been swept up into the Hollywood dazzle, and she wanted everyone to know about it.
Because of her behavior, many were led to believe that Mrs. Owens was only with her husband for his money. This, in fact, was not true. Mrs. Owens loved Mr. Owens very much, and together, they raised three children. Marcus was the youngest, Peter had been born second, and Kale was the oldest; the heir to the Owens throne.
One day, six-year-old Kale got lost. For a full twenty minutes, he wandered around the amusement park. And although it was loud and scary, he did not cry. He did the sensible thing and retraced his steps, figuring it would be the quickest route back to his family. He asked around for directions and eventually made it back to his panicking mother. While she sobbed into her son’s shoulder, Kale calmly patted his mother on the back, unsure of why she was so wound up.
Ever since that accident, Kale was treated like a prince. When he asked for a basketball hoop, his mother bought him a basketball hoop. When he asked for a bike, his mother bought him a bike. Darla had made sure to grant her son with only the best. Nothing was too good for her little sweetheart! Nothing had ever been too good for anyone in the Owens family. Naturally, things could only be placed below them. Like Kale’s girlfriend, for example.
Kale and Caiti had been going out since they were ten years old. Secretly, of course. If his mother ever found out, she would have gone into a rage. Kale was certainly better than a girl like Caiti! He deserved a romance with a star! He deserved to be followed around wherever he went by the paparazzi in hopes of catching him with another woman! What was he doing with a girl like Caiti?
But Kale knew that Caiti wasn’t just another girl. It had been nothing less than ten-year-old love at first sight. They had been together ever since.
And eventually, Mrs. Owens found out. It played out just as Kale had imagined it would. She reasoned and threatened, but Kale remained firm with his decision. He loved Caiti, and his mother would not deny him. She had never done it before! And so, Mrs. Owens backed off. But only so slightly. She may have stopped the screaming, but she never did adjust to Caiti’s presence. There was always the layer of frost between the two. PRESENT:
Kale is entering his junior year at HHS. Over the summer, he spends most of his time on the soccer field or with Caiti. He still has no idea what he wants to do after high school, but he’s thinking it might involve soccer. He still has no idea who Hillary is, but he’ll find out soon enough!
